The wine lover more interested in
tight flavors, fresh acidity, and zest than in the softness and sweetness that
comes from wood aging should look to Montenidoli.
Elisabetta Fagioli, owner of the estate, is one of the few
Tuscan winemakers capable of producing a great white. The three different
interpretations of Vernaccia di San Gimignano she makes must be given time, in
bottle and in glass, if one is to enjoy them fully: In our tastings, all
continued to improve, even the day after they were opened. Clear evidence of
the genuineness of these wines.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Montenidoli Carato 2005
fruit with balsamic overtones, incisive, a distinctive wine with tasty,
persistent sweet/ savory contrast.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Montenidoli Fiore 2007
savory, clean, elegant, with classic almond and grain aromas.
NB: Of the 10,000 wine presented to the guide, only
39 whites were awarded 5 bottles, thus earning a place among the prestigious
"I Vini dell'Eccellenza".
